Immersive Music and Light Performance / by Simon Painter

I photographed ambient musician Bob Holroyd as he performed at The Farnham Pottery with light show provided by Patrick Dunn. You can find out more about Bob here You can find out more about Patrick here

The venue is a great place and provided a really intimate and atmospheric setting. See their website here

I used the Sony A7RIII and the Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 lens to get these images. The combination was ideal for sneaking about in the dark. The Sony is so amazing in low light. The only thing I wish was that the silent shooting on the A7RIII was not affected so badly by the lighting used at the gig. When in this mode I got banding across the images making it a non-starter. I recently hired a Sony A9 which has a better silent shutter mode which, apparently, doesn’t have this issue. As parts of the ambient set were quite quiet it would have been ideal for this job.

I love doing this sort of work so if you need someone to capture your next gig give me a call.

Here’s a selection of the images.
